2. INTRODUCTION
=========================================================================================
This game was about a young boy/girl named Genjo. Genjo was given duty by Kannon
Bodhisatva to bring her staff to India. Genjo will be accompanied by a number of friends
on his/her journey to India. They will encountered a lot of monsters making their long
journey more difficult. They will depend on your strategy (because the genre of this game
is strategy RPG) to finish all the monsters encountered on their way to India.
WARNING! This FAQ is full of SPOILER because I will put all the game's dialogue in this
FAQ. If you didn't want any SPOILER, read Goryus FAQ because it's 100% spoiler free.
This is my fifth FAQ after Vanguard Bandit FAQ, Valkyrie Profile FAQ, Eternal Eyes FAQ

3.2 ACTIONS

There are 9 actions you can do at battle: Move, Attack, Spell, Potion, Use, Werechange,
Wereattack, and Summon. I will explain them one by one.
----
MOVE
----
This command allow you to move your character to designated area on the battlemap. You
can see the range of movement you can do after you choose this command. You can choose
command MOVE before/after you do some actions like attack, spell, etc. You can only move
within the range of movement.
------
ATTACK
------
This command allow you attack your enemy physically. You can only attack your enemy
within the range of attack. You get no bonus attack if you attack your enemy in the front
and sometime the enemy can dodge your attack. You get bonus attack if you attack enemy in
either side. You get more bonus attack if you attack your enemy from behind and your
attack never miss. So I suggest you to attack your enemy from behind. You get bonus
attack too if you attack from higher terrain but be careful don't get attacked from enemy
at higher terrain because you will receive more damage.

SPELL
-----
This command allow you attack your enemy magically. You can only attack your enemy within
the range of spell you chose. You can choose SPELL if you have already equipped magic
scroll. Ex: you can use spell Heal if you have already equipped Heal scroll. There are 5
type of magic: Life(Wood), Fire, Earth, Gold(Metal), Water. Each type has eight scrolls,
there are a total of forty scrolls. However one person can only carry a certain number of
scrolls. So be careful. If the scrolls orientation is the same as yours, the scrolls work
better and you improve more. Ex: Son Goku orientation is fire, so you should equip fire
scroll because you can make more damage and Son Goku's Fire Magic level is faster to
level up.

POTION
------
This command allow you to use potion(healing potion, cure potion, magic potion, etc) in
battle. You can only use potion on anyone standing next to you or on yourself.

USE
---
This command allow you to do something like drop the bridge(battle 1), remove the
charm(battle 1), open the treasure chest, etc. You can only choose command USE on things
with HAND symbol.

WAIT
----
This coammand allow you to end your character's turn. After you choose command WAIT, you
can choose the facing direction of your character.
----------
WERECHANGE
----------
This command allow your character to change into powerful were-creature. When a character
Werechanges, all enemies next to them take damage, all destroyable terrain(symbolize with
HAND) next to them is destroyed and were point is decreased by one. To get a hidden
treasure chest, you must destroy thing with HAND symbol like rock, tree, etc or in other
word you must werechange. You can only have one character werechange in battle. Were form
has very powerful special abilities. The abilities use points. When the Were gauge(upper
left corner) reaches 0, they return to human form. While in Were form, choosing
Werechange allows them to return to human form.

WEREATTACK
----------
This command allow you to attack your enemy in Were form. This command only appear if you
were in WERE form. Every attack you choose will decrease WERE point. When the Were
gauge(upper left corner) reaches 0, they return to human form. You can use this to remove
the barrier(Tree/Rock) that hide the secret treasure.

SUMMON
------
Sanzo can use the Summon command to call Guardians in exchange for MP. For 3 turns, a
Guardian will provide help to the party. The closer a companion is to Sanzo, the more
effective this help. Also, Sanzo is able to use the Guardian's power to perform an attack
of his own. If Sanzo either charmed or stoned, the Guardian will return to the Staff.
Every Guardian has his/her own characteristic. Ex: Mother will restores life points and
Sanzo can use new attack "CharmBlade". Sanzo will be very strong if he summoned a
Guardian.

4. THE JOURNEY TO THE WEST MYTHOLOGY
=========================================================================================
The most popular Ming novel, The Journey to the West (Xiyouji), is the story of monk
Xuanzang's journey to India to fetch Buddhist scriptures. Xuanzang is accompanied by four
disciples, including the Monkey King, Sun Wukong. Sun Wukong was supposedly born from a
stone egg, created from a rock as old as time and the essences of Heaven and Earth. He
was a master of magic, and his weapons included a magical staff capable of growing or
shrinking to any size.
Sun Wukong defied the supreme god of Chinese mythology, the Jade Emperor (Yu Di), with
his own claim as high god. To appease the mischievous Sun Wukong, the Jade Emperor
proclaimed him King of Heaven, concealing the fact that he had only made him a heavenly
stable keeper. Sun Wukong discovered this deception and, enraged, returned to Earth to
wreak havoc at both Earth and Heaven.
All the hustle and bustle soon disturbed the Jade Emperor, who at once sent the Wandering
Minister of Inspection and the Immortal Master of Blessed Wings to go to the Western
Region and invite the aged Buddha to come and subdue the monster.
The two sages received the decree and went straight to the Spirit Mountain. After they
had greeted the Four Vajra-Buddhas and the Eight Bodhisattvas in front of the Treasure
Temple of Thunderclap, they asked them to announce their arrival. The deities therefore
went before the Treasure Lotus Platform and made their report. Tathagata at once invited
them to appear before him, and the two sages made obeisance to the Buddha three times
before standing in attendance beneath the platform. Tathagata asked, "What causes the
Jade Emperor to trouble the two sages to come here?"
The two sages explained as follows: "Some time ago there was born on the Flower-Fruit
Mountain a monkey who exercised his magic powers and gathered to himself a troop of
monkeys to disturb the world. The Jade Emperor threw down a decree of pacification and
appointed him a pi-ma-wen, but he despised the lowliness of that position and left in
rebellion. Devaraja Li and Prince Nata were sent to capture him, but they were
unsuccessful, and another proclamation of amnesty was given to him. He was then made the
Great Sage, Equal to Heaven, a rank without compensation. After a while he was given the
temporary job of looking after the Garden of Immortal Peaches, where almost immediately
he stole the peaches. He also went to the Jasper Pool and made off with the food and
wine, devastating the Grand Festival. Half-drunk, he went secretly into the Tushita
Palace, stole the elixir of Laozi, and then left the Celestial Palace in revolt. Again
the Jade Emperor sent a hundred thousand heavenly soldiers, but he was not to be subdued.
Therefore Guanyin sent for the Immortal Master Erlang and his sworn brothers, who fought
and pursued him. Even then he knew many tricks of transformation, and only after he was
hit by Laozi's diamond snare could Erlang finally capture him. Taken before the Throne,
he was condemned to be executed; but, though slashed by a scimitar and hewn by an ax,
burned by fire and struck by thunder, he was not hurt at all. After Laozi had received
royal permission to take him away, he was refined by fire, and the brazier was not opened
until the forty-ninth day. Immediately he jumped out of the Brazier of Eight Trigrams and
beat back the celestial guardians. He penetrated into the Hall of Perfect Light and was
approaching the Hall of Divine Mists when Wang Lingguan, aide to the Immortal Master of
Adjuvant Holiness, met and fought with him bitterly. Thirty-six thunder generals were
ordered to encircle him completely, but they could never get near him. The situation is
desperate, and for this reason, the Jade Emperor sent a special request for you to defend
the Throne."
When Tathagata heard this, he said to the various bodhisattvas, "All of you remain
steadfast here in the chief temple, and let no one relax his meditative posture. I have
to go exorcise a demon and defend the Throne."
Tathagata then called Ananda and Kayapa, his two venerable disciples, to follow him.
They left the Thunderclap Temple and arrived at the gate of the Hall of Divine Mists,
where they were met by deafening shouts and yells. There the Great Sage was being beset
by the thirty-six thunder deities. The Buddhist Patriarch gave the dharma order: "Let the
thunder deities lower their arms and break up their encirclement. Ask the Great Sage to
come out here and let me inquire of him what sort of divine power he has." The various
warriors retreated immediately, and the Great Sage also threw off his magical appearance.
Changing back into his true form, he approached angrily and shouted with ill humor, "What
region are you from, monk, that you dare stop the battle and question me?" Tathagata
laughed and said, "I am Sakyamuni, the Venerable One from the Western Region of Ultimate
Bliss. I have heard just now about your audacity, your wildness, and your repeated acts
of rebellion against Heaven. Where were you born? When did you learn the Great Art? Why
are you so violent and unruly?"
The Great Sage said, "I was Born of Earth and Heaven, immortal magically fused,
An old monkey hailed from the Flower-Fruit Mount.
I made my home in the Water-Curtain Cave;
I sought friend and teacher to gain the Mystery Great.
Perfected in the many arts of ageless life,
I learned to change in ways boundless and vast.
Too narrow the space I found on that mortal earth;
I set my mind to live in the Green Jade Sky.
In Divine Mists Hall none should long reside,
For king may follow king in the reign of man.
If might is honor, let them yield to me.
Only he is hero who dares to fight and win!"
When the Buddhist Patriarch heard these words, he laughed aloud in scorn. "A fellow like
you," he said, "is only a monkey who happened to become a spirit. How dare you be so
presumptuous as to want to seize the honored throne of the Exalted Jade Emperor? He began
practicing religion when he was very young, and he has gone through the bitter experience
of one thousand, seven hundred and fifty kalpas, with each kalpa lasting a hundred and
twenty-nine thousand, six hundred years. Figure out yourself how many years it took him
to rise to the enjoyment of his great and limitless position! You are merely a beast who
has just attained human form in this incarnation. How dare you make such a boast?
Blasphemy! This is sheer blasphemy, and it will surely shorten your allotted age. Repent
while there's still time and cease your idle talk! Be wary that you don't encounter such
peril that you will be cut down in an instant, and all your original gifts will be
wasted."
"Even if the Jade Emperor has practiced religion from childhood," said the Great Sage,
"he should not be allowed to remain here forever. The proverb says, 'Many are the turns
of kingship, and next year the turn will be mine!' Tell him to move out at once and hand
over the Celestial Palace to me. That'll be the end of the matter. If not, I shall
continue to cause disturbances and there'll never be peace!" "Besides your immortality
and your transformations," said the Buddhist Patriarch, "what other powers do you have
that you dare to usurp this hallowed region of Heaven?" "I've plenty of them!" said the
Great Sage. "Indeed, I know seventy-two transformations and a life that does not grow old
through ten thousand kalpas. I know also how to cloud-somersault, and one leap will take
me a hundred and eight thousand miles. Why can't I sit on the Heavenly throne?"
The Buddhist Patriarch said, "Let me make a wager with you. If you have the ability to
somersault clear of this right palm of mine, I shall consider you the winner. You need
not raise your weapon in battle then, for I shall ask the Jade Emperor to go live with me
in the West and let you have the Celestial Palace. If you cannot somersault out of my
hand, you can go back to the Region Below and be a monster. Work through a few more
kalpas before you return to cause more trouble."
When the Great Sage heard this, he said to himself, snickering, "What a fool this
Tathagata is! A single somersault of mine can carry old Monkey a hundred and eight
thousand miles, yet his palm is not even one foot across. How could I possibly not jump
clear of it?" He asked quickly, "You're certain that your decision will stand?"
"Certainly it will," said Tathagata. He stretched out his right hand, which was about the
size of a lotus leaf. Our Great Sage put away his compliant rod and, summoning his power,
leaped up and stood right in the center of the Patriarch's hand. He said simply, "I'm
off!" and he was gone-all but invisible like a streak of light in the clouds. Training
the eye of wisdom on him, the Buddhist Patriarch saw that the Monkey King was hurtling
along relentlessly like a whirligig.
As the Great Sage advanced, he suddenly saw five flesh-pink pillars supporting a mass of
bluish air. "This must be the end of the road." he said. "When I go back presently,
Tathagata will be my witness and I shall certainly take up residence in the Palace of
Divine Mists." But he thought to himself, "Wait a moment! I'd better leave some kind of
memento if I'm going to negotiate with Tathagata." He plucked a hair and blew a mouthful
of magic breath onto it, crying, "Change!" It changed into a writing brush with extra
thick hair soaked in heavy ink. On the middle pillar he then wrote in large letters the
following line: "The Great Sage, Equal to Heaven, has made a tour of this place." When he
had finished writing, he retrieved his hair, and with a total lack of respect he left a
bubbling pool of monkey urine at the base of the first pillar. He reversed his
cloud-somersault and went back to where he had started. Standing on Tathagata's palm, he
said, "I left, and now I'm back. Tell the Jade Emperor to give me the Celestial Palace."
"You stinking, urinous ape!" scolded Tathagata. "Since when did you ever leave the palm
of my hand?" The Great Sage said, "You are just ignorant! I went to the edge of Heaven,
and I found five flesh-pink pillars supporting a mass of bluish air. I left a memento
there. Do you dare go with me to have a look at the place?" "No need to go there," said
Tathagata. "Just lower your head and take a look." When the Great Sage stared down with
his fiery eyes and diamond pupils, he found written on the middle finger of the Buddhist
Patriarch's right hand this sentence: "The Great Sage, Equal to Heaven, has made a tour
of this place." A pungent whiff of monkey urine came from the fork between the thumb and
first finger. Astonished, the Great Sage said, "Could this really happen? Could this
really happen? I wrote those words on the pillars supporting the sky. How is it that they
now appear on his finger? Could it be that he is exercising the magic power of
foreknowledge without divination? I won't believe it! I won't believe it! Let me go there
once more!"
Dear Great Sage! Quickly he crouched and was about to jump up again, when the Buddhist
Patriarch flipped his hand over, and tossed the Monkey King out of the West Heavenly
Gate. The five fingers were transformed into the Five Phases of metal, wood, water, fire,
and earth. They became, in fact, five connected mountains, named Five-Phases Mountain,
which pinned him down with just enough pressure to keep him there. The thunder deities,
Ananda, and Kayapa all folded their hands and cried in acclamation: "Wonderful!
Wonderful!"
Sun Wukong remained beneath the mountains for 500 years. On his journey from China to
India to retrieve Buddhist scriptures, Xuanzang unearthed Sun Wukong, who became
Tripitaka's escort and disciple. With two other companions, Piggy and Sandy, both
exofficials of the Heavenly Court reborn in monstrous bodies, Sun Wukong accompanied the
monk for 14 years, covering nine kingdoms and encountering numerous fantastic adventures.
After presenting the scriptures Tripitaka had obtained in India to the Chinese emperor in
the imperial capital of Chang-an, the four travelers were borne up to heaven.

5. WALKTHROUGH
=========================================================================================
First you must select your character. There are two characters: male character and female
character. Choose the one you liked best. There's no significant difference between male
character and female character. The only difference is the form of your character. You
will get the same story but the voice you heard in the beginning of the game will depend
on the character you chose. If you chose male character, you will heard male voice. If
you chose female character, you will heard female voice. So let's follow the story.
(My name is Chin Genjo. When I was a baby, I was found floating down the river by Elder
Homei, high priest of the Golden Temple. He telled me I was wrapped in a beautiful cloak.
There's nothing else to show who I was. Elder Homei gave me a home in the temple and
allowed me to helped out in the temple ground. I live there for 16 years until one
day...)

You will be in the center of the screen with a beautiful color at the background of the
screen.
Genjo : Where am I?
Suddenly you will heard a mysterious voice.
??? : Genjo... Genjo...
Genjo will be surprised with the flashing light in front of him. The light turned out to
be a beautiful young lady/goddess, Kannon Bodhisatva.
Genjo : Ah! Aren't you...
Kannon : I am Kannon Bodhisatva. I have a quest for you.
Genjo : Lady Kannon! But what could you possibly want with me?
Kannon : Listen to my words. Listen closely. Take this staff and go to Thunder Temple in
India. I'm depending on you!
Genjo : India? But why me? I'm no one...
Kannon Bodhisatva will disappeared with the flashing light, leaving Genjo confused.
Genjo : Wait...Please wait.
Now you will be in the garden of the temple. Is it just a dream?
Genjo : Wait... I don't understand. .....Huh? Did I just dream all that?
Priest : Genjo! Genjo! What are you doing?
A priest will come to you in such a hurry.
Genjo : Aaah... I just saw Lady Kannon...
Priest : Oh, come on! Quit dreaming and get back to work. Hurry up! The Emperor's
messenger will be here soon!
Genjo : I'm sorry.
Priest : You've finished here? Then come help us in the main hall. Hurry!
Genjo : I'll be right there!
The priest will leave you.
Genjo : Still... Strange, I could have sworn that was real.
You will see something shiny in front of you. It turned out to be a staff.
Genjo : A staff! Where did this come from? So, it wasn't a dream after all!
Priest : Hey! Hurry up!
Genjo : Sorry! I'm coming.
Genjo will pick up the staff.

Gold Temple: Main Hall
======================
You will see 8 priests, a high priest and the emperor's messenger in this room.
Official : His Imperial Highness has been worried about increasing unrest in the land.
Last night, Lady Kannon appeared to Him. She told Him how to restore peace.
She said a monk from Golden Temple must be sent to Thunder Temple in India.
Homei : Lady Kannon? You say that the Emperor was visited by Lady Kannon?
Genjo : (That's just like my dream.)
Homei : You have heard the Minister! Who will undertake the journey west to India?
Priest : (That's over 18,000 leagues away. No one can possibly walk that far.)
Priest : (They say there are bandits and monsters all along the way!)
Genjo : (Why is no one volunteering?)
Homei : Is there none who will accept this undertaking?
Genjo : Excuse me... Would I be acceptable?
Priest : Are you out of your mind?! This is not a journey for a child.
Genjo : But...but Lady Kannon appeared to me, as well.
They will be surprised with what you said.
Priest : How dare you make something like that up!
Homei : Silence! I will make my decision by tomorrow. We are finished here. Show the
messenger his room.
The party will be dismissed including Genjo but Elder Homei called Genjo.
Homei : Genjo, wait.
Genjo : Yes, Elder?
Homei : Aaah...never mind.
You will see Genjo leaving the room, leaving Elder Homei alone.

Gold Temple: Garden
===================
You will see Genjo sweeping at the garden of The Gold Temple. Elder Homei will come to
Genjo.
Homei : Hard work is the sign of a good spirit!
Genjo : Elder!
Homei : It is beautiful this evening. It reminds me of the day I found you. Have not
these 16 years been wonderful?
Genjo : Yes, they have. I owe my life to you and the other monks.
Homei : Genjo, did you truly see Lady Kannon in a dream?
Genjo : Yes! She told me to take this staff and go to India.
Genjo will show Elder Homei the staff given by Lady Kannon.
Homei : What? You received that from Lady Kannon? To be truthful, I also had a dream.
Genjo : You did?
Homei : Yes, I was told to accept the Emperor's command and send you to India. However, I
did not wish to expose you to such danger.
Genjo : Elder, I would like to go! And I know Lady Kannon will protect me. I must admit,
I would like to see the world for myself.
Homei : So, you truly would like to risk the dangers of the journey? Then the decision is
made. You will prepare to leave for India tomorrow morning.
Genjo : Thank you, Elder! I will not disappoint you!
Then tomorrow comes. Elder Ohmei and the priests seeing your leaving to India.
Genjo : These clothes are really uncomfortable.
Priest : They were made for monks going on long journeys. You'll get used to them.
Homei : You are no longer a servant. You are a monk. From now on you will be known as
Sanzo.
Genjo : Sanzo?
Priest : The name refers to the three libraries that are said to be in India.
Homei : Within those libraries are a collection of sacred writings to guide us in this
life. Make certain you do not dishonor this name during your travels.
Sanzo : I will!
Fighter : Master Sanzo, it will be our privilege to accompany you.
Guard : We are yours to command.
Sanzo : No, it is I who shall depend on you! I guess I should be going.
Homei : Sanzo, be careful!
Priest : Be sure to care for yourself properly!
Sanzo : Farewell everyone! I shall return!
After that, you will left the temple.

You will be in a rocky mountain.
Sanzo : We've come quite a distance.
Fighter : After we cross this mountain we'll be near the edge of China.
Sanzo : Is it true there are monsters on this mountain?
Fighter : Don't worry. That's why we're here! We'll take care of you.
After that, 4 monster appeared in front of you.
Sanzo : What are they?
Fighter : Monsters!
Guard : Master Sanzo! Get back. Let us take care of this!
They will fight the monsters. Two monsters killed but two more monsters appeared. This
time they can not hold the attack.
Guard : Run, Master Sanzo! Get away while you still can!
Sanzo : What about you? I can't leave you!
Fighter : We'll hold them off. Get out of here! Now! Aaah!
Guard : Aaaaah!
They were killed by the monsters, leaving you out with the monsters.
Sanzo : No... (I don't want to die here!)
You will hear a voice calling you.
??? : Hey you! You're the monk called Sanzo, aren't you?
Sanzo : Huh?!? Who's that? Who's calling my name?
??? : Up here! On the mountain.
Sanzo : A rock? A voice from a rock?
??? : not the rock! I'm trapped inside the rock. If you're Sanzo, you should be able to
free me. Come free me! Then I'll help you defeat these wimps.
Sanzo : All right! I'll be right there!

Strategy : Run away for now. Don't fight them. Go across the bridge. After you crossing
the bridge(5,6), drop the bridge by selecting USE command in front of the
bridge(5,5) so they can't follow you. Open the treasure chest(7,6) near the
bridge to get healing potion (Select USE command if you standing next to the
treasure chest). Now finish the Imp(9,5) guarding the charm. After you finish
the Imp, don't remove the charm. Try to increase the experience by fighting
the rest of the enemies. Now stand at the same position like the Imp(9,5).
Wait until the enemies come to you. You will have to fight the monsters one by
one. If you low on HP, use SPELL HEAl. If you run out of MP and low on HP,
select USE command at the charm(9,4) to finish the battle.

Turn 1
Sanzo : I've never fought before. I must be careful.
If Sanzo's HP reaches 0, the game ends. However, if you save the game, you can restart
from the saved point. To save, enter the free cursor mode and press the START button. A
menu will appear.
Turn 2
??? : Here's some advice! After you cross that bridge, drop it into the valley below.
They will have to go around. That'll give you some time. Be careful not to drop it
before you cross.
Sanzo : Okay.
Turn 3
??? : Oh and there is a treasure box. You can open that, too.
Sanzo : Did you say treasure box? What's in it?
??? : Don't know. But be careful, you don't have much time. The monsters are coming!

Strategy : The battle is not hard although there are a lot of enemies. Move Goku between
3 thiefs(the one wearing green cloth) then select command WERECHANGE. You will
hurt all enemies surrounding you, at this point 3 thiefs when you WERECHANGE.
Have Sanzo aid him in the battle with HEAL SPELL when he is low on HP. Don't
forget to heal yourself too if you low on HP. Just attack and heal, in no time
you will win this battle.

Turn 1
Goku : Listen! I have a secret weapon. I can Werechange!
Sanzo : Werechange... You mean the form you took before, at the rock?
Goku : Yes, if you choose the Werechange, I will take that form! In my Were satet, I can
squash these bugs.
When Son Goku and the rest Werechange, they take their Were Form. Were have very powerful
special abilities. The abilities use points. When the Were gauge(upper left corner)
reaches 0, they return to human form. While in Were form, choosing Werechange allows them
to return to human form.

Sanzo : But you defeated everyone! You're incredible.
Goku : I've been stuck in a rock for 500 years... Back then I would have been faster.

a rock.

Strategy : This is the first time you fight with the help of GUEST. Hakkai will wuite
help you in battle although you can't control him. This fight is easy. Use

Strategy : You can position your characters in this battle. Put Sanzo at the left, Cho
Hakkai in the middle and Son Goku at the right. Bronze Dragon is very strong
and has a lot of HP, luckily there's only one in this battle and there are 3
characters can fight in this battle. Have Son Goku and Cho Hakkai attack the
dragon and Sanzo heal them if they low on HP. Have Sanzo attack the dragon
only if his HP is full because Sanzo's defense is very low and he has less HP
than Son Goku and Cho Hakkai. You can use WERECHANGE command if you like or
just attack the dragon with just physical attack. I prefer Cho Hakkai turned
into Raging Boar than Son Goku.
