* PART ONE: THE INTRODUCTION *
**********************************************

This, as you may have guessed, is the 7th Saga FAQ/Walkthrough!
Here you will (hopefully) find everything you need to know to get
through 7th Saga for the Super NES (which is no easy task). This FAQ
consists of a walkthrough, reference lists, and other tips and thingys
that will make your journey easier. So let's get started!

** AUTHOR'S NOTE **

Note that the level recommendations and a few other things in this
walkthrough may be slightly variable due to the fact that you can play
as one of seven different characters. Since they have different spells
and abilities, you might be able to complete a task at a lower level, or
you may have to gain an extra level or two. So keep in mind that the
levels may be off by one or two, but it really shouldn't matter all that
much. I tried to keep this walkthrough applicable to whichever character
you're using because it's a hell of a lot easier than writing 7
different walkthroughs. Just bear with me, OK?

--------BACKGROUND ON THE 7TH SAGA--------

Released by Enix of America in the US in 1993, The 7th Saga was
(and still is) a game that will keep you busy, for a while. A LONG
while. It was estimated by Enix that the average person would spend no
less than 70 hours playing through the game. Where do all those game
hours come from though? Well, when you start playing, you'll find out.
7th Saga is a VERY HARD game. It may sound like I'm exaggerating, but
you spend roughly 90% of the time gaining levels, and the thing is, it's
pretty much necessary because if you don't you won't get far at all.
The game is pretty much one big level-up (well, a lot of small level-
ups, actually), but is still remains a great RPG despite its being very
tedious at times. If you're looking for a game that'll keep you busy
for a while.... look no further.

You start by choosing one of seven characters to use on your
journey. As one of these characters, your job is to go forth and find
the seven runes scattered throughout the world of Ticondera. Once all
seven runes are gathered, the holder is said to attain unimaginable
power, enough to be the leader of the world! Along the way, you will
interact with the other apprentices... they may ask to join you, they
may attack you, or they may decide to go their own separate ways. There
may also be times when you will have to fight other apprentices for
runes. If an apprentice defeats you in battle, he will steal all your
runes and you will have to go hunt him down and get them back.

Now that I've taken care of the background info (and the story as
well, really), here are some helpful tips before you go out on the
search for the runes!

--------SOME HELPFUL TIPS BEFORE YOU BEGIN--------

        - Everybody knows this, but I'll say it anyway. Two of the most
important things to remember are to TALK TO EVERYONE and SAVE
FREQUENTLY! You never can tell what info you will get from someone
until you talk to them. They may ask you for favors or even give you
items! And of course, you should always save when you reach a new town,
gain a level, or are about to advance into a potentially dangerous
situation. You will probably want to Save anyway at regular intervals
just in case that a freak thunderstorm decides to turn off your
electricity.

        - In battle, you can raise your attack power by DEFENDING first.
By DEFENDING, your defense power will raise and you will take less
damage by an attack that turn, but your attack will also temporarily
increase. Next turn, select attack and you will deal more damage than
you would normally. It's best if you always DEFEND, then ATTACK.

        - Each of the seven runes has a distinct ability that can be
brought forth by using the item in battle or on the field. For example,
the WIND RUNE allows you to transport to any town that you have already
visited, and the WATER RUNE will heal your HP if you use it in combat.
Don't forget these abilities, as they can save MP, HP, time, or even
your life!

        - If an apprentice wants to fight you, and you wanna see how you'd
fare against him, please SAVE the game first. The apprentices are
likely more powerful than any enemies you will ever fight, because they
are ALWAYS at the same level as you are. Keep this in mind... getting
level ups will not help you to defeat an apprentice, because as you get
stronger, they get stronger. It's best to SAVE because if you lose
(which is pretty likely), they will steal any runes that you have. If
that happens, you'll have to chase that apprentice down and get your
runes back before doing anything else.

        - When choosing a companion, if you decide to do so at all, look
for the apprentice that has abilites that your character is not so good
at. If your main character is Olvan, for example, you will want to look
for a companion that is skilled at magic. That way you will have a
balanced party and it will be much easier going.

        - If you're one of those people who can go through an entire game
without going into a single item shop (which is the way some RPGs
are...), then well, you're just going to have to make some compromises.
:) It is vital that you are carrying several items that heal your HP
and MP, and you should also be carrying several items that increase your
stats (B Power, B Agility) because these items will prove to be most
useful when fighting a boss.

        - When you're done buying items in a town, it may be a good idea
to spend the rest of your money on jewels. When you are defeated by a
monster, they will steal half your gold, but they do not bother with
jewelry. In the event that you are defeated, you will still retain your
jewels. The good thing about jewels is that you can sell them for the
same price you bought them, so there is no loss of money on your part.
You should highly consider doing this!

        - The Houses of Healing are there for a reason. If you are
poisoned and stuck without an antidote or your companion has died, you
can go there and heal yourself or revive your companion (for a price).

I think that just about covers everything. Now, we're ready to
start the walkthrough!

*********************************************
* PART TWO: THE WALKTHROUGH *
*********************************************

The first thing you must do is select a character to use on your
journey. There are seven characters to choose from, and each has their
own strengths and weaknesses. Choose your character wisely, because
you're gonna have to use him the whole game. It's better to pick
carefully now than wish you had about 10 hours into the game.

The following is a description of all characters, and their
starting stats. The stats are as follows:

HP Hit Points How many HP the character has. This is their
'life'... it drops every
time the character is damaged by attacks,
spells, or poison. If this
drops to 0, the character will die.
MP Magic Points How many MP the character has. This is their
magic power, it drops
every time a spell is cast. If this drops to 0,
you will not be able
to cast any spells until you rest or use
restorative items.
POWER A depiction of how strong the character is.
This affects how much
damage a character will do when he strikes. The
higher the number, the
                                more damage he will deal.
GUARD A depiction of the character's defense ability.
This affects how much
damage is done when the character is attacked.
The higher the number, the less damage the character
will receive when attacked.
MAGIC A depiction of the character's magical strength.
This affects how
effective a character's spells (mainly attack
spells) are. The higher
the number, the more damage attack spells will
deal to enemies.
SPEED A depiction of the character's speed. This
affects how often a
character will dodge an enemy's attack, skill,
or spell. The higher
the number, the more likely the character will
be able to dodge attacks.
WEAPON This signifies the attack power of the
character's equipped weapon.
This is added to the character's POWER to
determine how much damage is
                                done when the character attacks.
DEFEND This signifies the defense power of the
character's equipped armor and
shield. This is added to the character's GUARD
to determine how much
damage is done when the character is attacked.
EX This represents the number of experience points
the character starts out
with. This is pretty much insignificant,
however, because all
characters need to reach the same number of EXP
to advance to the next
level, and this number will probably double
after your first battle.

Lux Tizer, Tetujin

Lux is a Tetujin, which can be thought of as a robot. However
Tetujin have minds of their own (to some extent). Lux's real strength
is his defense power, which highly surpasses that of any of the other
characters. It is quite possible that you will progress for a while
without taking any more than 1 HP damage from enemy attacks. He gets
only a few attack spells, but these spells are pretty strong. Lux is
also a very cheap character, because he will keep the same weapons and
armor until very late in the game. Lux can pretty much join with
anybody.

Lejes Rimul, Demon

Lejes, the demon, has one major weakness... his defense. If you
don't kill the enemy you're fighting in the first strike, then problems
may arise. But Lejes's attack power is rather strong, and it is likely
that you kill most enemies before they cause many problems. Lejes gets
a few good attack spells (mostly fire-based), and due to his evil nature
will never be able to join with Valsu.

Kamil Dowonna, Human Knight

If there was one word to describe Kamil, that word would be...
AVERAGE. He is the most well-rounded character in the game, and he is
probably the best character to use if you do not want to take along a
companion. He is pretty much a jack-of-all-trades, but an expert at
none. He can use average healing spells, cast avergae attack spells,
has average attack and defense, etc, etc... A good companion for Kamil
to have is Valsu, because of his great healing capabilities.

HP 16

Valsu Saizer, Human Priest

Valsu is a priest, and he has the best healing spells of all the
characters in the game, the most potent of which is the almighty ELIXIR
spell, which restores all HP and MP to one character for a mere 120 MP
(heh). With this spell, which won't be acquired until very late in the
game (when he reaches level 42), Valsu becomes a portable inn, being
able to restore all HP and MP, with only a cost of 120 MP. He also gets
great protective and stat-increasing spells, such as POWER and AGILITY.
By teaming Valsu and Kamil, you will have what is likely the best team
in the game. But with such great healing spells, Valsu's attack and
defense suffers. He has only a few attack spells, but he should be able
to hold his own, at least until you get Kamil... hehe :)

HP 15
MP 10
POWER 4
GUARD 4
MAGIC 4
SPEED 4
WEAPON 1
DEFEND 1
EXP 20

Esuna Busy, Elf

Esuna the magic-user has the most powerful attack magic of any of
the characters. She gets nearly all the attack spells (except for the
fire ones) and they are strong enough to wipe out nearly anything that
gets in her way. A team of Kamil and Esuna is also very balanced, but
probably not as good as Kamil and Valsu. But with all these cool attack
spells, Esuna's attack and defense power remains very low. You will
definitely want to join with a character with good attack power, such as
Kamil or Olvan.

HP 14
MP 16
POWER 3

DEFEND 1
EXP 18

Wilme Pelin, Alien

Wilme is the kind of character who doesn't need to buy weapons or
armor, he does fine with his bare hands and tough skin. His attack and
defense power are decent, and he has a few good attack spells. The only
thing he really has over the other characters is high HP, so he can take
a few more hits before dying. He is rather balanced, but probably not
as much so as Kamil. A team of Wilme and Valsu would probably be your
best bet.

HP 20

WEAPON 2
DEFEND 2
EXP 12

Olvan Jaess, Dwarf

Olvan the dwarf relies on his brute strength to get him through.
He has the highest power of any of the seven characters, and has rather
high defense, but his lousy spell-casting ability makes up for this. By
teaming Olvan and Esuna, you have both high attack and defense, and high
magical ability, but little means of healing.

HP 18
MP 3

Once you select a character (and name it), you will be in the
throne room of Lemele Castle, in front of the King, who is
coincidentally named King Lemele :)

--------LEMELE--------

King Lemele will proceed to tell you about your quest, which is to
go forth and find the seven runes. He gives each apprentice a CRYSTAL
BALL, a magical item that will stay in the upper-left hand corner of
your screen at almost all times. This item will show you where you are
relative to other things such as treasure chests, monsters, towns, or
the runes. On the crystal ball, you are always located at the "center".
A moving dot on the ball represents a monster (so you can "technically"
try to avoid fights), a circle represents a town, a yellow dot
represents a treasure chests, and a blinking circle represents one of
the seven runes that you are searching for!

When the King finishes his story, you will gain control of your
character. Head south, out of the throne room. In this next room,
there are doors on the left and right. The doors on the left lead to
three treasure chests, so pick them up! (don't worry... I won't tell
King Lemele). You'll obtain an MAGIC HERB 1, an ANTIDOTE, and an OPAL!
The MAGIC HERB will restore 20 MP, so hang on to it! The Antidote will
cure poison, and the Opal is a jewel that can be sold for money. Talk
to everyone around here, then continue south out of this room. There is
a door to the left here, but it just leads to a "house" with someone you
should talk to inside.

Continue south, and you will be out of the castle, now in the town
of Lemele. You should wander around, talking to everybody, and you
should also visit the shops to pick some things you will need on your
journey.

A few notes... the fountain in town can be SEARCHed. When you do
so, you will regain some HP (if you are missing any)... and there is
also an old lady in the southern part of town who will give you a POTION
1 when you talk to them.

INN -- 4 G

Don't bother selling your Opal yet, because even if you do, you
probably won't be able to afford much from the weapon and armor shops.
Instead, buy a few Potion 1 and one more Opal, to ensure that you are
carrying as little Gold on you as possible. You will also want to go to
the inn and SAVE the game. If you don't want to pay the 4G to rest
(which you don't need), say No, then you will still be able to record
your journey. When you are ready, head out into the outer world.

You will want to stay VERY close to the town at this point,
because you are very weak and can get killed very easily. Stay as close
to the town as possible, so that you can get back to the inn in case of
an emergency. You can still get in fights by standing still, so if you
don't feel like walking around, you can just sit there and you will
still have encounters. Remember in battle to DEFEND then ATTACK. If
you come across a Wyvern, be very careful because it can probably kill
you at this point. Use attack spells (if you have any). And go back to
the inn and rest whenever you need to (which at first will be probably
after every battle or two). Take it slow... no need getting killed,
right? :)

Stay around town and work yourself up to level 3. At that point
you should be able to take care of the enemies around there without too
much of a problem. You should also buy any equipment that you can
afford (always check the attack/defense power before you buy... you
don't want to buy something that is worse than what you already had).
At level 3, head south to the town of Rablesk.

--------THE GATE OF EARTH--------

In Rablesk, you will find that there is a problem. The Gate of
Earth to the south of town has been closed, sealing all transportation
between Rablesk and the next town, Bonro. This happened because the key
to the gate was stolen by Romus, a ghost who lives in the Castle of
Aran. The castle is located to the east of Rablesk. It is apparent
that if you want to advance any further, first we are going to have to
go get the key of Earth.

But first, be sure to wander around town and talk to the
townsfolk. You will learn that Romus has been scaring the villagers
with howling sounds in the middle of the night, and how the town wishes
someone would get rid of him. In the Tavern, you will also meet a man
named Gain, who will promise to give you a map of the world if you will
get rid of that pesky Romus. Well, it doesn't look like any of the
other apprentices are around, so you're gonna have to do this job
yourself!

INN -- 6 G

There are a few new pieces of equipment here to save up for, and
you'll definitely want to go to the item shop and buy a few bottles of
protection. You will need them when you go and fight Romus. Once you
have purchased any stuff you may need, head back out and go east.
You'll find the Castle of Aran, but don't go in it just yet. Instead,
hang around and fight Wyverns and Demons for a while, until you reach
level 5. Then go back to Rablesk and buy any other equipment or items
that you couldn't afford before.

Romus is very very tough. It IS possible to beat him at level 5,
but to do it you will have to be killed. You probably don't understand
what I'm saying, so I'll explain it.

If you were to go and try to beat Romus now, chances are very
great that you will get beaten, and very very badly at that. But when
you do, you can get an item that will make it much easier to defeat
him... the Whistle. If you wish to do this, then go and get killed by
Romus (hehe), then go back to the old couple who lives in the southwest
corner of town. You will receive the Whistle. Now go back and
challenge Romus again and use the Whistle in combat. If you want to do
it the hard way, then you'll need to be level 9 or 10.

Anyway, once you are level 5, you should be strong enough to poke
around in the Castle of Aran and pick up the treasure chests that are
scattered throughout it. Head for the Castle of Aran and enter it! :)

When you first enter, there will be a doorway straight ahead.
Don't take it yet, that leads to the second floor. Head west a little
ways, then north. You will see another doorway all the way to the left,
but it only connects to the doorway that is all the way to the right, in
other words, a waste of time. Follow this path until you reach a set of
stairs that leads down to the basement. Take those.

Once downstairs, the path leads north and south. Go north, and at
the junction go right. Follow the path and you will reach a treasure
chest that contains a PSYTE SWORD. If you can use this, you've probably
already got something better, so just hang on to it until you get back
to town to sell it. Go back north and west, past the junction. Follow
this path all the way around the outside of this floor until you get to
the southwest corner, where the path splits. There are two ways leading
east. Take the bottom one, so that you are going along the southern
edge of the basement. Follow this path all the way around and you'll
find the other treasure chest which contains a TOPAZ. Now, head back to
the first floor.

You may want to take advantage of this opportunity to go back to
the town and rest, if you need to. You may even want to go ahead and do
it anyway, even if you don't really need it, but that's up to you. When
you're ready to continue, head into the middle door on the first floor.
Here you'll find the stairs that lead up to the second floor. Climb
them, and in the next room there are two ways to go, left and right.
Start by going left, and follow this path. After passing under an
archway, you'll be in a room with two treasure chests. The one on the
left contains a POWER SEED, and the one on the right contains a POTION
1. After collecting these, head back to the stairs and take the right
path. Continue along this path and you will come to another set of
stairs. Take them up to floor 3.

On floor 3, head east a little way and the path will split.
Continue east, and go through the "door" to get to a treasure chest that
contains a POTION 1. Head back out of this room and go back west to the
split in the path. Go south, and you'll soon find the path splits
again. Continue to the south, and you'll see a treasure chest in the
room on the left. Keep following the path and you'll be able to enter a
door that leads into that room, and you can pick up the OPAL in the
chest. Now, head back out of this room and head to the "southwest".
This is the path that leads to Romus. If you're going to take the easy
way out, then go head and follow this path and talk to the ghost
(Romus), and get killed. Just remember to get the whistle from the old
couple in Rablesk.

If you want to try and beat Romus, make sure you are around level
9 or 10 first. You will also want to make sure you have a B Power and a
B Protect, because you will most likely need them. When you are sure
you are ready, go and challenge Romus!

****ROMUS****

HP: 300
EXP: 528
GOLD: 240

Attacks:
-Unleashes a thunderbolt on you for pretty high damage
-Uses HPCATCHER (drains life from you and gives it to him)

The first thing you should do is use a B Protect. This will
double your defense and help to ensure that you won't get wiped out by
Romus's thunderbolt attack. Next turn, you should use your B Power,
which will double your attack power. And heal with POTION 1 or the HEAL
spell whenever needed. Cast your strongest attack spell, or if you want
to save your MP for healing, or don't have any attack spells, DEFEND
then ATTACK. Provided you have enough means for healing, you should be
able to take down Romus. When you do, all the monsters in the castle
will disappear, and you will receive the KEY OF EARTH!

Now you will have to walk all the way back through the castle
(thankfully there are no enemies now). Once back out in the outer
world, go back to Rablesk and rest! Then, in the morning, go to the
southwest of Rablesk to the Cave of Earth.

Here you'll fight a rather pesky enemy, the Undead. They have a
bad habit of casting the "revive" spell on any of their friends that you
have already killed, so if you fight them, make sure to kill them first.
They also have rather high attack power, so watch your HP. You should
hang around in the Cave here and gather some more experience, up to
around level 12. You'll need it, trust me. :)

After you're done gaining experience, it's time to head out to
open the gate. Upon entering the cave, just follow the path and you'll
come across the door. Use the Key of Earth in front it and it will
open. Shortly after you will come across another entrance in the cave
that leads to a room with two treasure chests. Pick them up to obtain
an ANTIDOTE and an AGILITY SEED. The seeds increase your stats, by the
way, so you should use them as soon as you pick them up :)

After exiting this room, continue along the path. Beware the next
chest you come to, for the time being. The treasure chest is actually a
"trick", which is a monster, and a very tough monster at that. If you
want to try and open it, heal yourself fully first and make sure you
have a B Power and B Protect.

****TRICK****

HP: 80
EXP: 220
GOLD: 100

Attacks:
-Regular attack (very high attack power)
-Poison attack (attack + possibly of inflicting 'POISON' on you)
-Uses PETRIFY (turns you into STONE for a period of time)

Again, first you should use a B Protect. The 'Trick' has very
high attack power and if you don't have a B Protect you will probably
get killed in one or two hits. After using the B Protect, you should
use a B Power, then heal if needed. Afterwards, DEFEND then ATTACK
(basically the same strategy you used to defeat Romus). It will be
tough (especially if you get PETRIFIED), but if you win you will gain
quite a bit of gold and experience, and you will also receive a TOPAZ
when you win.

It is likely that you will need to go back and rest after your
battle with the Trick, so do so, because there is more danger up ahead.
Once you ready, proceed further into the cave. As you progress along
the path, you'll soon find that someone is blocking the path. Make sure
you are fully prepared for another boss fight, then talk to him. You'll
learn that his name is Pison, and he has been hired (by one of your
"fellow" apprentices) to kill you. Without even telling you who he is
working for, he attacks.

****PISON****

HP: 250
EXP: 264
GOLD: 120

Attacks:
-Whip attack (damage)

Pison has no special attacks, but he doesn't need any because his
regular attacks are strong enough. As always, use a B Protect, then a B
Power, then DEFEND and ATTACK (or cast attack spells), healing when
necessary. Pison is tough, but you should be able to take him down as
long as you have enough healing supplies. Once Pison is defeated, you
will be able to proceed through the cave. But first it is likely that
you will want to go back and rest once more, because even the road to
the next town is dangerous enough to give you a hard time :)

When you're ready, continue straight north from where Pison was
and enter the doorway which leads to another small room with two
treasure chests. Here you will pick a B FIRE and a MAGIC HERB 1. Go
back out of this room and proceed along the path, and follow it until
you reach the exit.

--------MELENAM--------

Once you exit the cave, you will want to get to the next town as
soon as possible. There are a few new enemies you do not want to tangle
around with a whole lot before you can buy new equipment. The ANDROIDs
have pretty high attack power and they have a bad habit of sucking away
your HP. Avoid fights at all possible, but if you have to fight, be
very careful.

Go southwest and soon you will reach the town of Bonro. Here you
may be able to pick up a companion, and there is new equipment to buy
and new people to talk to!

INN - 6 G

The first thing you should do is find Gain and get your map. When
you go to his house, you will find that he has gone to the HOUSE OF
HEALING. Go there, and the guy will tell you that Gain has gone to the
TAVERN. Follow Gain's trail from the TAVERN to the WEAPON STORE, the
HOUSE next to the DOCK, and finally back to his house. After this wild-
goose chase around Bonro, you will finally receive the MAP!

Now you will want to find a companion. If the person who you are
looking for is not here, then most likely he or she is in the next town.
If the person who you are looking for doesn't wish to join you, then go
out and fight a few battles, then come back and talk to them again.
(They will look at you differently if you are more experienced.) When
you find a companion (if you choose to take one along), you will want to
buy better equipment for your main character (your companion already has
the best equipment from this town). Once all that is out of the way,
it's time to head back out. You should hang around Bonro and work
yourself up to level 13 by fighting Androids and, possibly, Manrots.
Watch out for the Manrots, however, because their ice spell can wreak
havoc on your party, not to mention they can PETRIFY you :p

When you ready to head out once again, it's time to head for the
town of Zellis, which is a rather long walk. Looking at your map, the
light area is impassable area (such as mountains( and the dark area is
passable area (plains), which should probably be the other way around,
but anyway Zellis is at the northern edge of the southwest part of this
continent. Yes, that is a rather long walk :)

Head out, and use the map to guide you. The path isn't all that
confusing, it's just really long. Just keep your HP up and watch out
for those Manrots!

When you reach Zellis, it's time to do some shopping and talking
again :)

INN - 8 G

In Zellis, you will find that everyone is talking about the lost
treasure of Melenam, a continent that supposedly sank deep into the sea
long long ago. In the inn, you will find a man named Brantu, who is a
historian. He believes that he knows where the entrance to Melenam is,
but he cannot get there because of the monsters. He asks you to take
him along, and you should agree as it is the only we are going to
proceed any further :)

You should also buy any equipment that you can afford (the
equipment is getting rather pricey, eh?) as usual, and buy any items
that you may need. If the apprentice you were looking for wasn't in
Bonro, chances are he or she will be around this town somewhere.

Again, you should hang around town and work yourself up another
level (to 14 or so) and you will most likely be able to afford all the
equipment that you need from Zellis. At this point, it is time to
travel to the Cave of Melenam, which is at the very north-western tip of
the continent.

You will notice that the cave is represented on the crystal ball
as a flashing circle. This means that one of the runes is hidden
inside! Once inside the cave, the flashing dot on the crystal ball
marks the treasure chest that holds the WIND RUNE.

As soon as you enter the cave, you will notice that the place is
loaded with treasure. From the entrance, first head east and up the
stairs. Continue east (you'll notice more stairs leading back down, but
it leads to an empty chest. If you want you can open it to get the
yellow dot off your crystal ball...) until you come to a junction where
there are stairs (to the north) and a way going south. Go south as far
as you can (down two sets of "stairs) and head west to get a treasure
chest that contains an M WATER. Further to the west is a dead end, so
head back east. There are two stairs leading north, the left one is
where you came from, and the right set leads to a POTION 3. After
collecting it, head back to the junction where there were stairs north
and a way south. You guessed it, take the stairs. Head east, and
you'll find even more stairs (UGH!)... both to the north and south.
Head south and get the WIND RUNE!

The WIND RUNE has the ability to whisk you away to any town you
have already visited, but it can't be used in caves. Head back to the
junction where there were stairs north and south, and go north. Pick up
the OPAL in the treasure chest. From here, head all the way west and
down the "stairs" to the south. Continue west and you'll find (oy) two
more "stairs" to the south. Take the longer one (the one on the right)
to a treasure chest that is actually a TRICK. If you're low on health,
you might want to wait before getting this one. You will get a TOPAZ if
you beat him. The stairs south lead to a dead-end, so head back north
and take the shorter set of stairs (the left one).

Go south (across two "stairs") and you'll find that you can head
northwest, or south. Head to the northwest (more stairs) and continue
along the path until you reach a treasure chest containing an ANTIDOTE.
Then go back and take the south path. You'll pass another empty chest,
but more importantly, you'll find a cave that leads to the entrance to
Melenam! But first, you will probably want to go back and take a rest.
Go back out of here and use the Wind Rune to quickly get to Zellis,
where you should rest and save. When you are ready to proceed, enter
this cave.

Follow the path and you will come to a cave entrance sealed off by
boulders. This is where Brantu comes in. He will fiddle with something
and the rocks will slide away, revealing the entrance to Melenam!

Once inside, Brantu will leave your party (hmm... hardly ever
noticed he was there), and you will be free to look around Melenam,
which you will want to do thoroughly because Melenam is a treasure trove
of huge proportions. The stairs leading down (near where Brantu is
standing) lead back down into the cave, and after what we just went
through, that's probably the last place you'd want to go right now. So,
instead, head north and through the door. Pick up the two chests to
obtain a TOPAZ and a MAGIC WATER.

Now, head back south (past the stairs) and you'll come to a room
with two more treasure chests that contain an ANTIDOTE and a PEARL.
Continue south through the door. You'll find a few Tetjuin around here
that are pretty banged up (what do you expect after being at the bottom
of the sea for 5000 years?). Follow the path around until you reach
another rather large room. Head all the way left and north through the
door. Pick up the POTION 2 in the treasure chest, that go back out of
this room, and into the next one on the right to get a PEARL. Further
to the right, there is yet another room where you can pick up a RUBY!

Take the center path leading north to leave this room, and
continue following the path until you hit a stairway. Go upstairs, and
follow the path... you'll notice some more stairs to the left, but go
south to reach a large room. Directly in the middle of this room is an
enclosed area where you can find a PROTECT SEED. On the north side of
this large room, there are two more smaller rooms where you can find a
TOPAZ, a MAGIC HERB 1, and a B PROTECT!

In the southeast corner of this large room, there is one last room
with a chest that contains an OPAL. Now that you're loaded down with
all the treasure you can carry (hehe), go back to those stairs leading
up.

D'oh! Another cave. Around here you should stop and fight the
local hordes of monsters (if you are rather hurt, though, you should use
the Wind Rune and go back and rest/save) until you get up to level 15 or
16 (preferably 16). You'll find out why soon enough ^_^

The path through the cave is pretty straightforward, you'll notice
that there are two ways leading north... there is a right way and a
wrong way. The wrong way is to the left, and it will take you quite a
ways to the north before dumping you into a dead-end. So instead, take
the right path leading north. But along the way, you will find... Pison
again. He's not too happy about what happened last time you fought, and
he is determined to settle the score this time. Before you fight make
sure you are at full health (and have SAVED THE GAME) and have B
PROTECTs and B POWERs.

****RED PISON****

HP: 275
EXP: 2203
GOLD: 1000

Attacks:
-Regular whip attack (VERY strong)
-Casts CURE 2 when low on HP

Well, Pison has learned one new trick, and that's to use the CURE
2 spell when he's low on HP. This will recover 90 HP, and it is rather
annoying when he does it right when you are about to kill him. Ack...
anyway, just use the same strategy you used to fight any boss (i.e use
B PROTECT, then B POWER... this time for you AND your companion), then
DEFEND/ATTACK, cast attack spells, and heal. Red Pison is tough, but as
always, provided you are around level 16 and have enough means for
healing, you should be able to take him down (and he gives you quite a
chunk of EXP and GOLD when you do so, too!).

After kicking Pison out of the way (again) it is likely that you
will want to use your handy dandy Wind Rune and teleport to safety for
some much needed rest. After healing, it's time to head on out of here.
From where Pison was standing, continue to the north and east and you
will find another cave entrance. This will take you back out to the
outer world!

----THE WATER RUNE----

Wow! By looking at your map, you will soon realize that you are
out in the middle of nowhere! This small island is home to the town of
Eygus, who rarely ever get visitors from the mainland (hmmm... wonder
why that is?). The town is located on the northern part of this island,
so make your way there.

TOWN OF EYGUS

INN - 6 G

*NOTE* There are no shops in Eygus. D'oh!

In the northern part of town, you will find a sage standing in
front of the house. If you have the Wind Rune (which you should), he
will let you go through and into the cave that connects back to the
continent. Enter the house and go down the stairs. Now you will find
yourself in the cave that leads back to the continent.

Yecch.. another cave. Follow the path and eventually it will
split (there will be ways leading west and south.) It doesn't matter
which way you go... they both connect anyway, and when you reach the
place where they connect, head west and north to get to the exit to this
cave. Not that bad, eh?

By taking a gander at your map again, you will find that you are,
indeed, back on the continent, only in a different area (you should now
be somewhat near the southwest corner of the continent). Head to the
southeast and you will soon find the town of water, Pell.

In this town, you will learn that the Water Rune is being kept by
a tribe in the south. You will also learn that the tribe is very
fierce, so you should be careful. In the tavern, you will meet an
unempolyed digger who apparently likes singing a lot. He is known as
the digger Quose, and you will want to keep him in mind because we'll
need him later. Once you have gathered information and bought any new
equipment you might need, it's time to head back out once again.

From Pell, head due south until you hit part of a mountain range.
Head west and around the mountains as to get on the south side of them,
then head east until you get to the village (tribe?) of Guntz.

VILLAGE OF GUNTZ

INN - 6 G

        * NOTE * There are no shops in Guntz either. :P

You'll find that the natives of Guntz aren't fierce, they're
actually pretty friendly, at least the ones you can understand. Many of
them will just make caveman noises when you talk to them...

You'll learn that Guntz is in trouble. There has been no rain for
a long time, and the crops are dying. Furthermore, they cannot dig a
well because the ground is too hard. Talk to the sage (the old man) and
when you ask for the Water Rune, he will refuse to give it to you. The
sage is stubborn (as you may have learned) so talk to him again. And
again, and again.... until he finally agrees to give you the Water Rune
if you can get him water for the crops.

And I believe I know just the man for the job. Remember the
digger Quose back in Pell? Go back to him and tell him that you have
found work for him. He will join the party. Now take him back to
Guntz. Talk to the sage again (who is now on the bridge) and Quose will
get to digging. After a while, he will strike water and it will fill up
the river (and pretty darn quickly, too). The village is saved, and the
sage thankfully gives you the WATER RUNE!

*NOTE* As the Sage said, the Water Rune will heal one character's
HP when used in battle. Don't hesitate to use it, it doesn't use MP and
you can use it as many times as you want!

The Sage will also tell you that he has heard of another rune in
the land of Patrof, to the east. You should go and check that out as
well!

----SENSELESS APPRENTICE----

But before you do you should hang around and get up to level 18.
The next part will prove to be just a little difficult ^_^

When you are ready, head back out and to the east. It is a rather
long way to Patrof, so make sure you are fully prepared before you go.
After heading to the northeast for quite some time, you will come across
the castle of Patrof!

But, even upon entering the castle, you'll learn that things, as
always, are not quite right. The townspeople seem to be very nervous
about something, and urge you to get out of town before you get hurt.
Hmm.... wonder what could be going on?

Note that you can also search the fountain in this town to regain
some of your HP.

You'll learn that someone has single-handedly invaded the castle,
snatched up the STAR RUNE, and killed the King and all his loyal
followers, and is now ruling Patrof with an iron fist. Who in the world
could have done such a thing? You don't think.....?

You can't get into the castle because the gate is locked. There
must be another way to get into the castle (and of course, there is!).
Go to the graveyard on the east side of town, and push on the graves.
One of them will move to reveal a hidden tunnel leading down into an
underground tunnel.

The enemies in the tunnel are very strong, and you will want to
hang around and raise your level up to about 20 before proceeding any
further. When you are ready to proceed, head south from the entrance to
the tunnel. Pick up the first treasure chest you see to obtain a POTION
3. Continue south and you will find a small area with 4 boxes. Ignore
the one on the left for now, and take the other three to get a PEARL, a
MAGIC WATER, and an AGILITY BOTTLE. The other chest contains a RED
TRICK, which is an even tougher version of the trapped chests we have
encountered before! They have all kinds of "tricks" up their sleeves,
so watch out!

****RED TRICK****
HP: 175
EXP: 440
GOLD: 200

Attacks:
-Casts F BIRD (fire damage on all characters)
-Regular attack (deals very high damage)
-Poison attack (deals damage + chance of poison)
-Casts VACUUM1 (can destroy a character)
-Casts HPCATCHER (steals HP from a character)

Boy! Look at all those attacks. Just hope that he doesn't hit
one of you with Vacuum. If that happens your character will
automatically die, and then most likely you'll be in deep trouble.

You will get a TOPAZ when you defeat it. Once you have collect
the treasures here, head back to the stairs. Then head to west, and
follow the path and get the MIRROR in the treasure box. Head back to
the stairs once more, and go to the north. Continue along the path
until you reach a stairway leading down deeper into the caves and
another box. This box contains another RED TRICK, so be prepared before
opening it.

Your reward... another TOPAZ. Once you are prepared to go on (you
may need to go back and rest), head down the stairs. Pick up the first
chest you see to get another TOPAZ, then head east and south to obtain
an AGILITY SEED. Take the west path (pick up the MAGIC SIPHON along the
way), then head north to get the ANTIDOTE. Go south and continue along
the long, winding path until you reach an area where it forks to the
north and south. First head north to pick up two chests... which
contain a PROTECT SEED (the one on the left)... and the right one is
another blasted RED TRICK. Your reward for taking this one down is an
EMERALD... which sells for a whopping 5,000 GOLD!

After collecting these, head south until you hit the wall, then
head to the east and pick up the RECOVERY. By continuing to the south,
you will reach a room with a pond. Wow. So don't go that way, instead
head back to the west. Follow the path all the way west and then go
north to pick up a chest with a RUBY inside. Then head back south, and
continue to the south :)

When the path first splits (there will be two ways leading south),
take the right path leading south, and continue to the east. You will
reach a room with some stairs leading up and two more treasure boxes...
BOTH of which are RED TRICKS! ARRGH!

By destroying them, you will get a TOPAZ and a RUBY. Now, head up
those stairs. Almost there :)

Follow the paths on this floor to the north and eventually you
will reach the stairs that lead up into the castle! *YAY*!

Once in the castle, follow the path and go into the north room to
pick up two chests which contain an AGILITY BOTTLE and a POTION 2. You
will notice that you still cannot go through the gate, so go into the
room directly across from the gate and go up the stairs (it doesn't
matter which ones you take). Exit this room and head to the west, and
head back downstairs. Take the two chests to get a POWER SEED and a
RUBY. Now, head back upstairs and go the right... and take that set of
stairs up to the top floor.

When you enter the throne room, you will find the culprit. You
will find that, indeed, one of the apprentices has seized control of
Patrof. He will ask you to forget about the runes and join him here at
Patrof. For now, say YES. (Yes, that's right. Don't worry. I know
what I'm doing :) Now, you can exit the castle and go back and rest and
SAVE. Do so, and come back and tell him you have changed your mind.
Now you will have to fight!

****APPRENTICE****

The strength of the Apprentice is dependent on the strength of
your main character. Getting level ups won't help, because he will get
stronger as well. The main thing to do is have lots of B Protects and B
Powers, because when you use one, there is a good chance that you will
be hit with a spell that puts it right back down again. Then use the
normal strategy (DEFEND/ATTACK, and HEAL). The apprentices are most
likely the most formidable foes in the game, unless you know what you
are doing. And even then, they can be hard as hell :)

(DIRTY TRICK) Well, if you just can't manage to beat that
apprentice, then try this. Go into the castle with your main character
dead. Your companion will have to fight the apprentice, but use an M
Water to revive your character and you will be able to fight with both
your characters! This should give you quite an advantage against him :)

Well, when you manage to beat the apprentice (you can do it!),
Patrof Castle will be free from his clutches, and you will also recieve
the STAR RUNE! This rune will double your defense when used in battle,
so make use of it during tough battles!

The townspeople will graciously thank you for your good deed, and
you will learn that there is a town to the north called Bone. This will
be our next destination! By the way, you may want to hang around and
get one more level-up before proceeding, just to be safe. You never can
be too careful, I guess :)

--------DINOSAUR?--------

To get to the town of Bone, you should head north along the coast
from Patrof. If you happen to go exploring, however, you will find a
tower. It is in the carved-out area in the mountains somewhat to the
southwest of Bone. Unfortuantely you can't get into this tower right
yet. There are two ways to enter, I believe. If your main character is
Olvan, you can find a Key in the town of Bone that opens the gate, or
you can warp from the North Tower, which we will come across later.
Chances are, it will be while before we can explore the tower, and the
enemies in there are rather strong (see for yourself!), so it would not
be a good idea to go poking around in there anyway. We will get to it,
don't worry :)

Anyways, there is a cave near Bone, but don't go to it yet. First
check out the town :)

Well. All I have to say about this town is that whoever desgined
its layout should be drug out into the street and shot. It is nearly
impossible to get to wherever you are going without going up and down
ladders, through people's houses, and generally walking around in
circles all over town. In town, you will find one kid who is so
confused that he thinks he's in Bonro. By telling him that he is
actually in Bone, not Bonro, he will give you a REMOTE CONTROL that he
found in the cave to the East. You will need this item, so make sure
you get it.

Gather information in town, and buy items and equipment (if you
can manage to make to the shops... ugh), and you will learn that there
are rumors going around of a dinosaur in Lake Fles, to the east. Hmmm,
you will also learn that one guy is hooked on a theory that the two
lakes are actually connected at the bottom. If this is true, there
would be a way to proceed further north without having to try and cross
the mountain ranges (which you can't do anyway). At any rate, when you
are done in town, head back out and raise your level to 22, then head
for the cave.

Wander around the cave for a few minutes (hey, you could use the
experience anyway) and you'll soon begin to notice that the cave is
completely empty! Hmm... what's up with that? Well here's where that
Remote Control we got from the kid in Bonro comes into play. In the
southeast portion of the cave (around where the "lakes" are), you will
see a spot in the wall that looks different (looks kinda like there is a
rock there). Go up to that spot and use the Remote Control. The rock
will slide open, revealing the entrance to a hidden lab!

Here you will find a man and his "dinosaur"... which is actually a
submarine! This is the guy who had the theory that the two lakes were
connected at the bottom. Apparently he was stuck in this cave without
his Remote Control... oh well. At least he will show you his secret...
and he will even offer to take you to the northern land! After crossing
the mountain range to the north, you will be dropped off in the town of
Dowaine.

There is also a boy in town who is an expert at picking up strange
things. He will sell you something when you talk to him for 100 G

get until you actually buy the thing. You can get some good deals this
way, but you can also get ripped too...

There's nothing else left to do here, so it's time to head back
out again. The monsters you will fight now are tougher than any others
you have faced, so hang around and get another level-up (up to 23)
before heading out for the next town.

Follow your world map, and head around to the big open area.
There are several places of interest around here, so first head to the
town that is in the southwest of this open area... Belaine.

Holy crap! Yes, there are a few weapon shops. First, get the
Muramasa sword if you have a magic-user (like Valsu or Esuna) on your
team. It will help them greatly. The Tidal Sword and especially the
Znte Sword are wastes of money. Other than that, you should shop at the
"regular" weapon shops and update whatever equipment you can afford.
Then, you should head to the castle.

In one room you will find a treasure trove (hee hee.. loot it!)...
so feel free to take what you want. But be careful, some of them are
trapped! You can find here a PEARL, POTION 2, ROYAL ARMOR, and ROBE OF
ANGER. As you may have guessed, the last chest is trapped (you probably
figured that out already...) and contains....

-Casts ICE 2 (High Ice damage on one character)
-Casts HPCATCHER (Steals HP from a character)
-Normal attack (OUCH!)
-Poison attack (Damage + Poison)

Boy is this thing tough! Watch out for those ice spells... the
BLIZZARD will affect both your party members! Make sure you are fully
prepared before trying to take on this thing! You will receive a measly
TOPAZ if you win, but you will get quite a chunk of EXP and GOLD :)

Throughout the castle and town, you will find that the countries
of Belaine and Telaine are on the verge of war, all because Telaine has
raised the prices of the ore that Belaine needs to make all its weapons.
Hmm... sounds pretty idiotic to me (which is the best word to describe
war anyway) so you'd better stop it before it gets out of hand.

The kingdom of Telaine is not far to the northeast. Head there
and check things out!

As before, walk through the town, gathering information. You
should also go to the castle as well. Now you should head back out and
gain some more levels. Get up to level 26 (no I'm not crazy and yes you
will need it) and make sure you have the best equipment you can buy. In
town, you may have learned about Luze, a civilization that kept the SKY
RUNE... but it was destroyed by a Dragon. The cave to the east looks
rather suspicious... let's check it out!

Enter the cave and follow the path until you come to a split.
Continue to the east and you'll come to two treasure chests. The bottom
one contains a TOPAZ, but the top open contains a KING TRICK. Defeat it
and obtain another TOPAZ. Continue to the right and follow the path
around (the path will split again, go west) to reach a room with two
more chests... one contains an ANTIDOTE and the other an AGILITY BOTTLE.
Head east and take the long winding path (it's a long one all right, and
eventually you'll come to an open room. To the south you can get to a
chest that contains a POTION 3. Now, head back north, and continue
north until you reach a cave entrance. This is the exit that leads to
Luze. Remember where it is, then go back and rest and SAVE.

First, we'll finish looting the cave. Head back to the first
split and head south, and when the path splits again, go to the west.
Follow the path to get to two more treasure chests. The left one
contains a POTION 2, and the right one is... you guessed it... another
KING TRICK. You'll get yet another TOPAZ by defeating it. Head back to

where the path split and head east. Head down the stairs to enter a
cave entrance that leads to another section of the cavern.

Follow the path until you come to a room with branches to the
north and south. First go south, then go west to get to a room with 2
treasure boxes. The furthest one back contains a VITALITY SEED, and the
other, is, well... you know. Kill it like you did all the others and
get (ack) a PEARL.

Now head back to the first branch and go all the way north, then
left to get to 2 more treasure boxes. Here you'll find a MAGIC WATER
and another KING TRICK. You'll get yet another TOPAZ. Go all the way
right, and follow the path. When it splits, head right and pick up the
MAGIC HERB 1. Now, go back and head south. In the next room, head to
the northeast then south and around to 2 last treasure boxes. Pick up
the MIRROR and the PROTECT SEED.

Now you're finally done in the cave, and you should probably go
back and rest/save again. Once you are fully prepared, head for the
exit to Luze. Once on the island, head south to find the lost
civilization of Luze.

While walking around the town, you will see that big bad dragon to
the north. But if you look closely at the ground, there is one spot
where there is a thing on the ground that looks almost like a rock.
SEARCH it, and you will find that it is actually a CRYSTAL OF PEACE!
Now you should be able to take care of things back at Belaine and
Telaine, but there's still that dragon to take care of. March right up
and challenge that filthy beast!
