1. Version History
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 0.60-October 29/02-I'm done the base of this thing. I finished the
Controls, Getting started, dueling, tips and
Walkthrough sections, and put in the base of
what are in the boosters, and began recording the
normal monsters in the card list.
Version 0.71-November 5/02-Found some more cards in some boosters, the best
one being Monster Reborn. I also realized that
I forgot the Limited/Semi-Limited list of the
game and added that, I also got the normal monster
card list down to the H's.
Version 0.75-December 1/02-Corrected numerous spelling errors and few other
problems pointed out by zhe.chen. Got the normal
monsters down to the P's, and added a few cards
to the booster pack list.
Version 0.80-Febuary 16/03-sorry about the lack of updates lately but I've
been quite busy with the end of the semester that
just ended. I plan on getting this walkthrough
complete by the time "Stairway to the Destined
Duel" comes out so I can begin working on that
the day it comes out, wish me luck. Well in this
Update I finished the normal monster section and
got down to F on the effect monster. There's
a possibility that I did more for this update that
I can't quite remember because I started it quite
a while ago but you'll have to see for youself.
Version 0.83-Febuary 22/03-Not much done in this update, I just finished
the effect monsters, and started/finished fusion
and ritual monster. Now all that's left for the
card lists are the magics and traps.
Version 0.88-April 10/03-Long story short I was gonna update the end of the
card list, I was completely done the magic and
almost done the traps and my file somehow got
deleted, so I had to start from scratch, so now
in this update I only got the magic list done,
I'll try and get the trap list done within the
next week then I'll work on fixxing a few odds and
ends then I should be done this and be ready to
begin work on WWE:SttDD when it comes out.
Version 0.98-April 17/03-A few more days till I get my hands on a copy of
WWE, and I'm almost finished this walkthrough. I
added all the trap cards, added a some extra info
to a few cards on the card list, Added the [rare]
to rare cards on the card list, Separated each set
into their common and rare cards, changed (version
2) into (Alternate Art) and that's about all I did
for his update I can remember. All I need to do
now is to complete what cards come in what booster
packs.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Word from the Author
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the story of how I got around to starting this Walkthrough. A while
ago I got bored and started working on a list of what cards came in what
boosters in DM5(Duel monsters 5 for the GBA, Japanese game), which is of
course what this game is based most on, this and DM6(Duel monsters 6,
Japanese game). Well I quit my working on it and eventually forgot about it.
Latly I've been hanging around the EDS board and a guy named korgie posted a
message asking for help in making a booster pack FAQ, and that sparked my
memory of my DM5 one and I offered it to him and told him he would have to
turn the card numbers from it into their American names. Well needless to say
he didn't want to do that and I really don't blame him, because it would be
much easier to just search the packs in EDS to find the new cards.
But me in my bullheadedness decided to try and convert the numbers from DM5
into the names of the cards in EDS, needless to say I gave up on that quickly
enough and started checking the EDS packs to do my own booster pack FAQ, and
when I was just about done my basic check each booster 20 times, I decided I
would do an entire FAQ/Walkthrough and then made a deck designed specifically
to deck an opponent and look at thier hand while they do it, so I could
record what different opponent's decks are.
Well enough of this stuff, onto the walkthrough.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Controls
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
These are the controls of the game, taken straight from the instruction
manual.
L Button:-Switches between Trunk, Deck, and Side Deck.(Deck/Trunk Screens)
R Button:-Switches between Trunk, Deck, and Side Deck.(Deck/Trunk Screens)
-Draws a card during draw phase
A Button:-Enters menus, commands and cards.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Getting Started
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you first press the new game button, Tea greets you and give you a
choice of 3 starting decks. I currently don't know what the difference
between the decks are, but when I find out it will go right into this
section. But what I do know that most of the cards in all of the packs are
chosen at random. When you choose your deck you come to a menu screen with
the choices, Campaign, link battle, deck edit, record, calendar, card trading
and password.
Campaign:This sends you to campaign mode where you duel against various
computer opponents from the anime.
Link battle:This has a pretty self explanatory title, this is where you duel
over a link cable against friends.
Deck Edit:This shows the cards you have in your trunk, deck and side deck,
and allows you to change them around. Press the A button to get
a menu bar at the top with various things you can do. There is a
minimum of 40 cards in your main deck, and a maximum of 60. In your
side deck there is a maximum of 15 cards. In between the duels of
matches(tournaments) you can add cards from your side deck to your
deck.
|The Deck Edit menu bar|
(Card view) -View the currently highlighted card
(to Trunk) -Move card from deck/side deck to trunk.
(To main deck)-Move card from trunk/side deck to main deck.
(to side deck)-Move card from trunk/main deck to side deck.
(list filter) -Organizes your cards by group.
[card groups]-All cards, Normal monsters, Effect monsters,
Fusion monsters, Ritual Monsters, Magic,
and Traps.
[organize them by]-name, atk, def, level, attribute, type.
*note, Magic and traps are automatically
organized by name.
(Statistics) -tells you how many cards of each group you
you have in a given place(deck, trunk,
side deck) and there percentage of the
total cards there.
(exit) -Return to Main menu
Record:Shows you your record against the opponents in campaign mode.
Calendar:Shows you a calendar with various events on it.
|WY|-This happens every Tuesday, you receive a Weekly Yu-gi-oh
pack of cards.
|YM|-The happens the 21st of every month, you receive a Yu-gi-oh
Monthly pack of cards.
|game boy|-Indicated a tournament is happening on that day.
Card Trading:Another self explanatory title. It allows you to trade cards
with a friend over the link cable.
Password:Allows you to use the passwords from your cards in real life to use
them in the game.
Now that the main menu is out of the way, time to explain what the different
kinds of cards there are.
Monster Cards:Monster cards are the main kind of cards in your deck, each
has an attack and defence point value. you use monster cards
to attack your opponent and to defend yourself from an
opponent's attack. Normal monsters you can only normally summon
or set(play face down in defense mode) one per turn. All
monsters have a level, indicated by the number of stars on the
card, to normal summon/set a monster with a level of 5 or 6
you need to put one monster from the field into the graveyard,
and for monsters with a level of 7 or greater you need to
put 2 monsters from your field into your graveyard in order to
summon it. Normal monsters have a yellow border.
Each monster has a attribute and a type.
There are 6 atrributes: earth, water, fire, wind, light and dark
there are 20 types:Dragon, Beast-Warrior, Fairy, Fish, Aqua
Spellcaster, Beast, Insect, Sea Serpent,Pyro
Zombie, Winged Beast, Dinosaur, Machine,Rock
Warrior, Fiend, Reptile, Thunder, plant
Effect monsters:These monsters have a orange border and have an effect of
some sort.
Some times the effect is a flip effect which means
when the monster is flipped from face down to face up,
from being attacked, flip summoning(switching it to attack
mode, which causes it to become flipped face up), or by
the effect of some other card(ex. sword of revealing light).
Sometimes the effect is that it needs some sort of special
conditions to get into play, for example toon monsters need
toon world in play to be summoned.
Some monsters have effects that remain active as long as they
are face up on the field.
Some monsters have triggered effects, which can be used
during your main phases, for example cannon soldier's effect
allows you to sacrifice one of your monsters and deal 500
points of direct damage.
There are other kinds of effects, but it would take too much
time and space to mention them all.
Fusion Monsters:You add fusion monsters to you deck as normal, but you place
all of your monsters in a separate deck called your fusion
deck until you use them. To summon a Fusion monster, you must
have all the monsters that make up the fusion monster in any
combination of in the field or in your hand, and use the
magic card Polymerization to merge them into the fusion
monster. Fusion Monsters have a purple border.
Ritual Monsters:To play a ritual monster, you need to have the ritual monster
in hand and it's ritual, and you must sacrifice monsters from
your hand and on the field, until you sacrifice as many
levels as mentioned on the ritual card. Ritual monsters have
a blue border.
Magic Cards:There are numerous magic cards each with their own unique effect,
there are 6 different kinds of magic cards, Normal magic cards,
Equip magic cards, field magic cards, continuous magic cards
Ritual magic and quick-play magic cards. All magic cards can only
be activated on your turn with the exception of Quick-play magic
cards. Magic cards have a green border.
Field Magic:A field magic card is a card that affects all the monsters on the
field, most times only monsters of a specific attribute or type
are affected, only one field card is allowed on the field at a
time, if a field magic card is played while another field magic
card is already in play, the first one is destroyed.
Equip Magic:These magic cards 'equip' onto monsters to give them special
benefits or to disable them in some way.
Continuous magic:Continuous magic cards remain on the field and continues
it's effect until it is destroyed.
Quick-play magic:Quick-play magic cards can be set like traps and be
activated on your opponent's turn.
Ritual Magic:These are cards that are used to summon ritual monsters.
Trap cards:Trap cards are set(played face down) during your main phases and
can be activated at any time unless the card specificlly says it
needs to be activated under certain circumstances, there are 3
different types of traps, normal traps, counter traps and
continuous traps. You cannot activate a trap the turn it's set
face down, Traps have a purple border.
Counter traps:These traps are used to counter spells and traps.
Continuous traps:These traps stay on the field after activated and continue
their effects until destroyed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Dueling
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the section where I teach you how to duel.
The first thing you do is play rock, paper, scissors with your opponent to see
who gets to choose who go first. There are 6 phases per turn, and I will
explain what happens in each one.
Ways to win a duel:-Reduce your opponent's life points to zero
-have Exodia the forbidden one,
left leg of the forbidden one,
right leg of the forbidden one,
left arm of the forbidden one, and
right arm of the forbidden one,
all in your hand at one time.
-If your opponent runs out of cards to draw you win.
Draw Phase:-You draw a card
Standby Phase:-You don't necessarily do anything in this phase, but the
effects of some cards happen in the standby phase, for example
when using messenger of peace, it says on the card that you
must pay 100 life points every one of your standby phases.
Main Phase 1:-You can use magic cards, as long as you have space to do so.
-You can set(place face down) magic and trap cards, as long as
you have space in your M/T zone to do so.
-You can summon a monster face up in attack mode, or set a
monster face down in defense mode(face down). You can only
do this once per turn, unless the effect of another card allows
you to special summon a monster, or gives you an extra monster
placement a turn. (ex:Monster reborn is a special summon,
Ultimate offering allows you to have another normal set/summon
a turn for every 500 LP you spend to use it)
Attack Phase:-attack with a monster, this is explained in more depth below.
Main Phase 2:-The same as main phase 1.
End Phase:-You discard down to 6 cards and then it is your opponents turn.
-Combat-
Combat occurs during a players attack phase, this is the main way that you
damage your opponents life points. Each monster has an attack point value
and a defense point value, if a monster is in attack mode he using the attack
point value, and if it is in defense mode it used the defense point value.
Each monster can only attack once per turn.
Attacking
The only monster that can attack are monsters in attack mode. In the case of
a monster attacking another monster in attack mode, the monster with the
lowest attack point value is destroyed and life points equal to the
difference between the two monsters atk points is deducted from the
controller of destroyed monster.
Example #1:Player A's Celtic Guardian(1400/1200) attacks Player B's
Griffore(1200/1500).
Celtic Guardian's attack points(1400) are higher than
Griffore's(1200) so Player B has his Griffore destroyed and gets
200 damage to his life points.
(1400-1200=200)
Example #2:Player A's Griffore attacks Player B's Celtic Guardian.
Griffore's attack points are lower that celtic guardian, so
Player A's griffore gets destroyed and Player A gets 200 damage.
(1400-1200=200)
Example #3:Player A's Celtic Guardian attacks player B's Celtic Guardian.
Because both Celtic guardians have the same attack points both
are destroyed but neither player loses life points.
(1400-1400=0)
When an attacking monster attacks a monster in defense mode if the attacking
monster has higher attack points then the defending monsters defense points,
the defending monster is destroyed, but the controller of the defending
monster loses no life points. But if the monster attacking has less attack
points then the defending monsters defense points, the attacking is not
destroyed but the attacking monsters controller loses life points equal to
the difference between the monsters attack and defense points.
Example #1:Player A's Battle Ox(1700/1000) attacks Player B's
Griffore(1200/1500) which is in defense mode.
Because Griffore's defence(1500) is less then Battle Ox's
attack(1700), Griffore is destroyed, but Player B recieve no
damage.
Example #2:Player A's Battle Ox is attacking Player B's
Prevent Rat(500/2000). Because Battle Ox's attack(1700) is less
than Prevent Rat's defense(2000), Battle Ox is not destroyed but
Player A receives 300 damage.
(2000-1700=300)
Example #3:Player A's Curse of Dragon(2000/1500) attacks Player B's
Prevent Rat. Because Curse of Dragon's attack(2000) is equal
to Prevent Rat's defense(2000), nothing happens.
Now that the basics are out of the way, the limited/semi-limited list and then
some tips for the game, and then onto the walkthrough.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Limited and Semi-Limited List
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the list of Limited and Semi-Limited cards in this game, a limited
card means you can only have one of them in your deck, and a semi-limited

means you can't have any in your deck.
And please don't ask me where to find Magic Cylinder,Limiter Remover and
United We Stand are, because to the best of my knowledge they aren't in this
game, but for some reason they are in the Limited list in the manual.

7. Tips
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This section is for tips on deck building and handling the AI in this game
and then I will move to messing with the AI minds, and then to chaining traps
and spells.
We will of course start with deck building tips. Then I will move to messing
with the AI minds, and then to chaining traps and spells.
Deck Building Tips
-Make sure you have plenty of level 4s, and only a few level 5-6 monsters
and even less level 7 plus monsters. The one exception to this is
if you have some sort of theme that requires numerous higher levels,
meaning you have a plan to get them out(flute of summoning dragon in a
dragon deck)
-Counter traps are your friends, make sure you have some counter traps in
your deck, I can't stress this enough, I've lost count of the amount of
times a Magic Jammer or Seven Tools of the Bandit have saved me.
-Choose a theme. Aside from just using a deck of randomly powerful monsters
simply getting boring after a while, it is much easier to power up your
monsters if you have some sort of underlying theme(like having all dark
monsters in your deck and having a Mystic Plasma Zone means pretty much
any monster you play on the field will have a 500 attack point bonus off
of the bat).
-Defense=Good. Unless you are focusing on a purely offensive deck, a good
defense is needed to protect your LP and sometimes harm your opponents,
if a monster has high defense, it has more chance of lasting the turn and
give you a chance to play that level 5/6 monster you've been trying to get
out.
-Remember effect monster, the almost all decks stick Man-Eater Bugs,
and Magician of Faith's in them because of their effects.
Messing with the AI
-The AI doesn't take effects into account when attacking you, use that to
your advantage, even if it is only for a tactic to buy time with a Big
Shield Gardna in the higher levels.
-The lower levels tend to almost always attack your face-down monsters,
but once you hit level three they tend to know the exact defense points
of the face down monster and won't attack it unless they can kill it.
-Even if you show the AI your face down traps with a card like The Stern
Mystic they won't acknowledge what it is and what it does.
Chaining
This is good to know so you know what it means when it mentions chains. Each
spell has a spell speed, there are 3 spell speeds, spell speed 1, spell
speed 2 and spell speed 3. The spell speeds let you know what cards can
be countered by other cards.
Cards with a spell speed of one are Normal Magic, Equip Magic, Field Magic
and Effect Monsters(Continuous, Cost, Trigger, and Flip). Things with a Spell
Speed of 1 cannot be chained onto anything and can be countered with spell
speed 2 or 3 cards.
Cards with a spell speed of two are Quick-Play Magic, Normal Traps and Effect
Monsters(Multi-Triggered). Cards with a spell speed of 2 can be used to
counter a card with a spell speed of 1 or 2.
Cards with a spell speed of three are Counter-Traps, and they can be used
to counter any spell level and can only be countered by a another spell level
3 spell.
for example:Player A plays a Heavy Storm
Player B activates a Magic Jammer
Player A Activates a Seven Tools of the Bandit
Player B Activates a Seven Tools of the Bandit
The Heavy Storm would destroy all Magic and traps on the field
The Magic Jammer would counter the Heavy Storm
The Seven Tools of the Bandit would counter the Magic Jammer
The 2nd Seven Tools of the Bandit counters the 1st one
This Causes the first Seven Tools to not work, making it so the
Magic Jammer wasn't countered, and the Magic Jammer still works.
Final Result is the Heavy Storm is deactivated and destroyed.

Battle Ox(Beat Umbra & Lumis 20 times)
Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon(Complete the level)
Black Luster Soldier(defeat all level 3s 10 times)
Tips:This level is much harder than the last, Don't go near Rare hunter unless
you have a way to make him discard cards, or you can blitz him and kill
him before he gets Exodia out. Arkana is your best bet for starting out
he doesn't have very strong monsters, most of his monsters focus on
holding you off until he can get him Dark Magicians into play, most often
from the graveyard with Premature Burial's and his monster reborn, and
watch out for his Dark Magician Girl when it is fully powered, because
a 2900 monster can cause you trouble.
